ABOUT

BIOGRAPHY

Fabienne Weber is a visual artist who lives and works in Strasbourg.

She has pursued an eclectic academic career, spanning pedagogy, art history, and archaeology. She taught for several years while pursuing field research that took her to North Africa for a decade.

This period, rich in experiences, travels and encounters, deeply nourished her sensitivity and continues to irrigate an artistic practice attentive to the resonances of the world.

For several years now, she has devoted herself entirely to creation.

Her works, light and delicate, explore floating territories between weightlessness – Tobikusa & Ukigumi – and iridescent cartography – her POP Maps. They sketch out escape routes from a sometimes oppressive reality, and invite the gaze to drift, the mind to escape, where colors and materials absorb, transform, dilute and unfold between soothing silence and chromatic joy.

APPROACH
ARTISTIC

For a long time, the artist's production carried a committed message.

In the background, she denounced geopolitical conflicts, the horrors of war, inequalities, consumerism, ecological disasters as well as forms of male domination.

These concerns were revealed through subtle, sometimes encrypted signs, geometric symbols as in the Ferrugineuses series but also through more assertive clues as in the one entitled Don Giovanni .

Little by little, the need to free ourselves from the dark human imprint became clear.

A different, brighter, more open approach has emerged, like a breath of fresh air in the artist's intellectual and experimental journey. This orientation, without denying her primary concerns, offers her a new space, freer, lighter, carrying a silent ideal.

Today, she explores delicate and ethereal plastic forms whose movement reveals impermanence. From a floating cloud or a sea of moving grass to the saturated chromatic intensity of a mental map, the artist explores contrasting but deeply connected territories.

RESONANCES

TOBIKUSA & UKIGUMO

“The artist shapes the papers to awaken the contrasts of our existences. Vulnerability and rootedness, ephemeral beauty and emotional depth, calm whiteness and multicolored swirls. Works whose calm is unsettling, chiseled with precision and harmony.

Paper like writing, without words, like the rhythm of music, without notes.

Fabienne Weber creates universes in motion, whose apparent fragility combines subtlety with strength. A disturbing experience where the purity of the works vies with their tumult.

FERRUGINOUS & CHROMA

“In the beginning was the tripartite cruciform element, the elementary particle of Fabienne Weber’s universe. Both grain and vibration. Brick and window. 31 cm by 17 cm, in an immutable ratio, the artist’s croce (cross in Italian) has multiplied to a scale of 1/10 and gives rhythm to space. It not only modulates it, it penetrates it. With an ordered relish.

A pointillist exploration, where it is no longer a question of thinking about the space between the points, but of considering the very nature of the point, discerning its matter, its depth, its fabric. The croci, frozen in their crystalline network, suspended in time, are so many windows opening onto a beyond, onto an alter mundus . The surface painting, gridded by cruciform elements, unfolds its three dimensions, in the very materiality of the cage of the world - in the thickness of the bars.

These croci were supposed to be flat, horizontal, laid like so many peaceful bricks, giving us a glimpse of a shattered multiverse, in formation, full of color and hope. But the noise and fury descended on Ukraine, the artist's world was turned upside down, and the croci turned upside down with it. They could only resist tilted at 50 degrees, in a furious imbalance, like the anti-tank hedgehogs on Odessa's main avenue.

And through these oblique loopholes, the artist was overwhelmed by the pain of the world.

Thus was born the Iron Age.

The tripartite cruciform elements are made from this torment: scraped sheepskins, charred papers, remains of fabrics from the opera workshops, fragments of classical works where we can still perceive remnants of humanity.

Past the white zone, the stasis, a cathartic crossing where the cross is sculpted, hollowed out, treated in low and high relief, the visual artist rediscovers her positive and primordial emotions, in a flood of colors and shimmers. Because she must reconnect with hope. Express her faith in life."
